A professional development program by
The Language Flagship Technology Innovation Center
June 3 to 7, 2024 at Yale University
The Language Flagship Technology Innovation Center (Tech Center) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa invites teachers in The Language Flagship, Project Global Officer, and the Language Training Centers (LTCs) to participate in a unique 5-day professional learning experience for participants to gain expertise in the use of AI-powered tools to (a) design pedagogy-driven, proficiency-based language learning experiences that have the potential to sustain high levels of student engagement; and (b) support in- and out-of-classroom learning. Participants will be guided and supported to explore the affordances of AI-powered tools in relations to both contexts. The fast-paced program consists of three phases:
(ⅰ) a Boot Camp that guides participants in developing key technological pedagogical knowledge and promotes design thinking through hands-on experiences with a selection of AI-powered technologies;
(ⅱ) a Design Challenge that will challenge participants to compete in the design of a learning experience that integrates the technologies used and knowledge and skills acquired in the Boot Camp;
(ⅲ) a Focused Reflection and planning session to guide project implementation and future adaptations.

Eligibility: Faculty, instructors, instructional design supports, and faculty development specialists affiliated with The Language Flagship, Project GO, Language Training Centers (LTC), and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC).
